Files & Artwork

What is considered Short Run?

A Short Run consists of quantities from 100–500. Selected items are available in short run quantities.

What files are accepted?

We accept most software applications. If you don't see your application listed, contact our pre-press department.

  • Adobe Photoshop (*.psd)
  • Adobe Acrobat (*.pdf)
  • Adobe Illustrator (*.ai)
  • Adobe InDesign
  • Microsoft Publisher
  • Quark Express
  • JPEG (*.jpg, *.jpeg)
  • TIFF (*.tif, *.tiff)
  • Bitmap (*.bmp)
  • GIF (*.gif)
  • PNG (*.png)
  • PostScript (*.ps)
  • Scalable Vector Graphics (*.svg, *.svgz)

We gladly accept Microsoft Publisher files. Publisher 2003 and later can be used for all full-color print output — contact our pre-press department for help getting your project ready in Publisher.

Can I send a Microsoft Word document for printing?

You can send a document created in Microsoft Word as a PDF. We suggest creating only single-color documents in Word — forms and one-color business cards work well. You'll need to convert the Word document to a PDF before sending it for printing.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is used on most computers to read PDF files. To create one, you'll need PDF creator software such as Adobe Acrobat, or a free tool like WinPDF.

Do you accept files from The Logo Creator?

Yes — export your file as a JPG from The Logo Creator software. When you upload your files, please let us know the file was output from The Logo Creator and include the version number, so we can make sure it's properly converted to CMYK.

Converting files to CMYK

All artwork should be in CMYK (Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Black) mode, since that's the mode required for the printing process. If an RGB file is submitted, it must be converted to CMYK, and some color shift can occur in that conversion — our team will do our best to match your intended output as closely as possible.

For step-by-step instructions covering Microsoft Publisher, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, Quark Express, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Pagemaker, see our full CMYK 101 guide.

Design & Color

What are your bleed requirements?

We require a minimum of 1/16", and preferably 1/8", of additional image area for bleed.

If I provide a print out from my own printer, will you match it?

Due to the wide variances in output devices — including inkjet and laser printers, which are generally RGB-based — we can't guarantee a match to your printout. Even previously printed pieces from another file or commercial printer can vary.

We suggest requesting a proof from one of our color-calibrated proofing systems so you can compare it to your printout for the closest read on the final result. Keep in mind paper finishes and hues can affect color in ways our proof can't fully simulate.

What about PMS colors?

Our presses run CMYK, so a PMS color will be derived from the CMYK process. A spot-color PMS match is possible in addition to the CMYK ink process — a PMS number must be supplied for us to match it. A PMS color being printed through the CMYK process can't be guaranteed to match 100%.

Proofs & Approval

What type of proof will I receive?

For any order where we're creating artwork for you, you'll receive an online PDF proof. Please review it carefully and flag any corrections or changes, including spelling. If you request a printed proof, it will be mailed to you, and any changes will be made and included with the original proof to be sent back to us.

Once I've received my proof, what next?

Review your proof and contact us regarding any changes or corrections needed. Once you approve the proof for production, you've confirmed the proof is correct and that you've checked it for all errors, including spelling.

Quotes & Shipping

I obtained a custom quote. How long is it good for?

Our custom quotes are honored for 30 calendar days from the date of the quotation. If your quote is more than 30 days old and you'd like to proceed, contact our sales department.

Shipping

We ship via UPS Ground. You'll frequently find shipping specials on certain products, including free shipping offers. If you have questions about shipping to your location, or need a rush order shipped, contact our customer service department.
